| The tell-tale sign of a lugworm in residence. The worm cast (right) and blow hole. the worm is in a U shaped tunnel between the two holes. |
Digging between the cast and blow hole marks
| make a quick grab for the worm | |
|
The worm has been taken intact from its borrow. damaged worms can be can be used on the hook but should be kept apart from the rest of the bait. |

A task I was never too good at but I did find a little sandy cove on Mull that was untouched by human hand the lug were huge up to 9'' my fishing companion at the time was a retired digger from Cumbria we never over exploited it and had great bait on demand !... This is a great piece with good instructive photos ..

As a retired Professional bait digger it brings back memories, mostly good but some bad days in stormy weather... and when worms were thin on the ground and I did,nt even make enough money to cover the petrol costs. But great times of being at one with nature and on a good dig earning enough in a couple of hours that most people would have taken all day to earn. On the down side I now have dodgy knees and a back that plays up now and then, but hey, I would'nt have changed it for the world...tight lines jonpop www.fishingmemories.spruz.com
I definately leave this job for a man... or go to bait shop... lol
