Barbel fishing is usually a summer pursuit but if you like your barbel fishing never disregard the winter. The 2 main thing that will trigger barbel into feeding are low pressure i.e. mild days and river flooding, providing the water flooding rivers comes with south or south westerly or anything in this direction it will create the warmer conditions barbel like to feed in .The rule of thumb on swollen rivers with this type of rain find an area where your lead hold bottom and the fish will be there, this will vary on the size of river you fish on E.G theArrow 3oz max the Severn 6 oz it’s a matter of trial and error. The baits to use the same as summer small pellets method mixes ground baits (silver X, halibut pellet ground bait, grated meats, polony luncheon meat, pepperoni and boost with fish oils smoked kipper, black squid, even predator plus. This time of year will not produce bags of fish but providing you cover plenty of swims it could produce a winter PB
