Traditionally barbel fishing is a summer pastime. However different rivers have different times these small rivers we fish tend to fish better in the autumn, September, October and even November providing the water entering the river is bought on southerly winds any other weather brings cold water and will put the fish down. Another tip in the colder months your meats and pellets will not work on there own in colder water because of the oil content so prepare early and glug baits in water soluble flavours.
